Boiler Design Problems. Certain basic design flaws can contribute to tube failures. Problems which occur as a result of a design flaw may be intensified by the boiler water chemistry. The boiler water often contains elements that become corrosive when concentrated far beyond normal values as a result of design problems.
Supercritical boiler technology is being implemented on CFB boilers by the major boiler manufacturers to realize efficiency improvements that lead to CO 2 mitigation, savings in fuel costs, reductions in power plant auxiliary energy consumption, and reducing heat losses of the boiler .
The CFB boiler offering has proven to be a viable technology by demonstrating high boiler availabilities and equipment reliability over a vast product range size in the past several years. Among the operating ABB CE CFBs are four which fire 100% biomass fuels and several others which fire low quality waste fuels including sludges.
NOTE: Triad highly recommends that boiler feed water be treated before it enters the boiler. The water in the boiler should have a pH level of between 7.5 and 8.5, and in no case above 9.5. If feed water temperature is below 140°F it also requires an oxygen scavenger. See WATER in Section III of this boiler manual.
